Erin De Assis, M.Ed.
I am a lifelong educator, highlighted by my years as a special education teacher and athletic coach.
My life experiences have taught me that all parents deeply love their children and want what’s best for them. But when it comes to education, there are societal barriers, limited resources, and misinformation that prevent families from having access to the tools they need to maximize their child’s educational success. Especially for parents of children with learning differences. Every family deserves the resources and strategies necessary to promote their child’s academic success, empowerment, and joy of learning throughout their K-12 years.
That has been my career-long commitment as an educator, and now in my work as an educational consultant.
My Approach
I believe in starting from a place of strengths and what is working, to build a strong foundation to support challenges. I am committed to supporting parents to learn more about their child’s learning differences and to leverage that information to empower their child and get them the support they need and deserve.
Education
I earned my Bachelor of Art Degree in Psychology from Hofstra University in New York, my K-12 Special Education Licensure from Fayetteville State University in North Carolina, and my Master of Education Degree in Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment from Regis University.
Experience
My career experience includes working as a K-12 special ed teacher, in intensive special needs programs and inclusion/co-teaching settings in general education classrooms, and leadership roles for student support and coaching for new teachers. I have developed school-wide practices to help families understand their rights as parents for Special Education (Section 504 Plans and IEPs- Individualized Education Plans) and to be actively involved in their child’s education.
Training
I hold an active K-12 Special Education Teaching License, a teaching endorsement for middle school math, as well as certification in Orton Gillingham Literacy Instruction, and Culturally Responsive Teaching Practices.
